Our First Forest Friday
We spent two hours outside today for our first Forest Friday! It went by incredibly fast! We met in a circle, read a book, and learned about "sit spots" and then chose a sit spot for the year! We will listen and observe nature there throughout the year. We sat in our new sit spots for a few minutes and then joined at the circle again. We shared some "I notice" statements and then guessed the temperature before looking at the thermometer. MANY children thought it was probably in the 20's today! :)
We listened to a yoga sun "Dance for the Sun" by Kira Willey and did some sun salutations! After circle we walked down to the Allen Brook and back for snack. We had only a few minutes left at the end to play on the hill.
Here are some things the kindergarten students had to say about our afternoon:
"We went for a walk and we got to see the Allen Brook Trail. We have our own tree stumps now and we got to play hide and seek!"
"If you go in the hideout you can be inside the tree."
"I had so much fun on Forest Friday! I liked playing on the big hill and going for a walk. It was so much fun seeing the creek. It was shallow."
"Going for a walk we saw a monarch butterfly!"
"We looked at flowers on our walk. They were pretty."
"It was really hot outside."
"I loved going down at the end of the path. I saw a butterfly when we went over the bridge."
"We saw some minnows and rocks on the bottom of the stream. There was some moss and bugs."
"IT was really fun and we saw baby minnows. We saw Daddy minnows and I was hoping to catch a bullfrog."
