We have been so busy in kindergarten! Last week we sang The Wheel's on the Bus kindergarten version, singing about The Wheel's on each of our kindergartner's buses. Ask your child to sing to you! We made our own bus, practicing following directions and scissor skills, and thinking about the letter our name starts with and what sound that makes.
In math we have been sorting shoes by different attributes (color, ties, etc) and then practicing going to math stations. Right now children are spending time with unifix cubes, polydrons, pattern blocks, geoboards, and counting pennies.
Ms. S came for our first guidance lesson and talked to the kids about the school rules. She read a book about being kind.
At Forest Friday we did a beautiful sun salutation song in our large human circle with Mrs. Read's class, played and explored, and then rotated through stations. It was very rainy! Kids were very interested in learning about poison parsnip and brainstorming ways to solve this problem! We have a path that leads to the top of the hill that we can't access because of the new growth.
This week we are beginning to use what will become our writing time for being storytellers. We are building up our oral language skills for telling stories and soon will begin drawing our stories too. Yesterday we talked about uppercase and lowercase letters and practiced writing our names with the first letter uppercase and the rest lowercase. Soon we will practice this as part of our morning sign in.
We also had our first practice fire drill, and our first school wide celebration (a dance party in the courtyard)! Everyone was really happy to see siblings and friends from around the school.
