What a great group of kids we have in our class! We had a great couple days getting to know each other and the new space and routines here in kindergarten. We spent some time learning the school rules (Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Responsible) and we are learning how to do all of those things in our classroom and around the school. There are so many new things to learn when kindergarten begins and I am sure the kids were tired this weekend! From where we put our lunchbox, how to line up, how to eat lunch in the cafeteria, what we do at circle, the day is full of so many new things! The kids all did a great job and are catching on quickly! This week we will continue to build our routines and become familiar with many of these parts of our day, as well as getting to know each other and learning the names of friends and teachers!
We made some mosaics of our names, drew with crayons, played and made choices (practicing signing up on the pocket chart for where you want to play) and had a great first Forest Friday with Mrs. Read's class. We spent an hour and a half outside, rotating through stations of gardening, drawing in our science journals, playing tag, and a walking tour of the school.
This week we will paint butterflies, start learning about the calendar, start our learning around letters and words, continue to learn through guided discovery about the different parts of our room, explore with iPads, and have a visit from Ms. S our school counselor for our weekly guidance lesson, and read many books!
