Literacy Stations

Wow, sorry for the blogging hiatus! My goal for the new year is to post more often about the things that we are doing in our classroom!
For the month of January we are trying a new way of doing literacy stations. Previously, the children were assigned a partner and each day they followed a schedule (with pictures) of which stations they would do. Instead, children know have a literacy folder that shows the options for stations, and they get to choose which ones they go to on each day. Once they go to a station they cross it off and they won't revisit it until the next week when they get a new sheet stapled in their folder. Any sheets that go with a station or work they don't finish will be stored in their folder.
The kids are very excited about the new independence and have enjoyed using the folders. This will give me an opportunity to meet with guided reading groups and provide small group instruction.
Some of the station choices are:
listening to a story
writing letters, numbers, and words they find around the room

arranging a gingerbread story on the pocket chart and reading it with a pointer
choose a letter and stamp it
handwriting practice on the ipad
