We had a wonderful week, overlapping time with Ms. B and I. It was so nice to see and listen to Ms. B with the children and for them to get to know me but still have her here to keep the routine consistent and help answer questions. I had a great time getting to know each of the children and look forward to spending the rest of the year with them!
Ms. S. came in this week to start teaching about Kelso's choices. Kelso is a frog that helps us learn the difference between small problems and big problems. We are encouraging children to learn what a small problem is, and try some of Kelso's choices to solve it themselves before asking for help from a grown up! Big problems should go straight to a grown up! We will be talking so much more about this in the coming weeks and will also send a Kelso wheel home for you to use at home too if you'd like.
In reading a math we reviewed many things the children have been working on. During reading the kids showed me what pointer power, picture power, and partner power looks like and how they can read both independently and with their partners. In math we did lots of "finger flashing" numbers and practicing our math games at stations.
This afternoon, the kids used some pretend cats and farm animals that Ms. B. gifted the class and built shelters for them outside during our forest time!
