We have had such a busy week, I keep thinking to myself "I NEED to put that on the blog!" This week we had our first practice fire drill which went really well. The kids did a great job listening and following the directions to be very quiet!
We also started our Fundations program. The kids are so excited about "Echo" who is an owl that is helping them learn their letters and sounds. :) This week we learned about the writing grid, and how to make the letter t. Look for more information in the Friday Folder!
We are beginning an author study with Eric Carle and this week the kids made a cover for their very own Hungry Caterpillar books. They are adorable!
We also made our first trip to the technology lab, learning how to log in to the computers. It is such a task to learn all the steps of logging in, including typing their first and last name, that's all we had time for this week!
In math we introduced THREE new workplaces to explore manipulatives (polydrons, geoboards, and a bucket of bugs). The kids are loving the math stations so much that they are taking them out during choice time to explore them as well.
We began our Dot Day celebration yesterday seeing the author Peter Reynold's live on the projector, and today we skyped with Jenny Lyle's preschool class in Moretown to see the dots they made. It was my first time ever skyping and it was a great success! We will skype again next week for our kindergartners to show the preschoolers what we do tomorrow for Dot Day!
Kady's mom Kara came in this morning and helped all the children put a button on a small cozy blanket to snuggle during quiet time. The kids were so excited and absolutely loved curling up with them and having something in their hands during our quiet rest time.
Lastly, Carolyn Tatlock (guidance counselor) came in this afternoon for our first guidance lesson. It was around feelings. We read a book and learned about clear mind, sparkle mind, and mud mind. Ask your kids what those mean!
Whew!! Are you tired yet?!
Thank you for the great updates. We have read through the Friday Folder information and look forward to helping out at home. Can't wait for the field trip tomorrow!
