Inspired by Eric Carle and our current author study, the children created their own versions of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We are keeping these books in our "browsing box" as familiar stories the kids can read themselves. Many of them are reading from memory, as we have read the book many times. This helps children feel confident in their ability to "read" books, by repeating story language and structure that they will then use to help them make predictions, make sense of story, and create their own stories. It is also great for reading fluency!
