Wow, so many things happening in our classroom! I have so many things to share and have been itching to post and tell you all the things that your children are doing while they are here! We have been working hard to establish routines, rules, and the workings of everything in the classroom and school. The kids are learning so many new things, and adapting so well to following directions and following the school rules!
Our school has adopted a system this year called PBIS, which we will talk more about at the curriculum night. The things you might hear about from your children are "warm buzzies". We have a bee theme here at ABS, and children are earning "warm buzzies" (little pompoms) to add to a class honey jar. When the jar is full, they earn a celebration! They have already filled the jar TWICE and earned extra afternoon recess! The adults in the school are all working hard to give out the buzzies for good behavior and following our three school rules: Be safe, Be kind, and Be responsible. It is through Guided Discovery that children are learning rules, trying them out, and then following them. We have done this for many things so far including: playground, cafeteria, walking in the hallway, playing in the block area, kitchen, listening center, cleaning up at the end of choice, using markers and scissors, etc. Wow, the list goes on!
We are also doing an Author Study of Eric Carle, and you'll be hearing more about his books and the Monarch Butterfly study we are doing. If by any chance any of you find monarch caterpillars, we'd love to have them in our classroom! We have been recreating a Very Hungry Caterpillar book, and will be creating many more books the children will be able to read that are similar to Eric Carle's other books! We are also participating in a program called Journey North that tracks monarchs online. Look for more info about this in the coming days!
