The Beginning of Kindergarten

Wow, what a wonderful first official week of kindergarten we have had! I have been blown away with how quickly the children have learned and understood all the new routines and expectations in kindergarten. If you walked into my classroom today, you'd never know that it was only been six days in. We have been singing, laughing, and enjoying our days. This afternoon when asked about their favorite parts of kindergarten, "outside time", "friends", "playdoh", and "paint" made the top of the list.
We have been doing art projects with our names, learning how to make play choices around the classroom, and learning how to rotate through stations. We have had lots of time out back of the classroom playing in the morning and the afternoon, and had the most beautiful first "Forest Thursday". We had to ditch our puddle pants because it was so warm and sunny!

Here are a few highlights from our days together:

Watching our Monarch caterpillars eat milkweed and then create a chrysalis! We made scientific drawings and learned many new vocabulary words!

Beginning our study of letters and sounds through our names, all while learning about glue, recycling, and the painting easel.

Enjoying our play stations of blocks and bears, legos and magnatiles, playdoh, and more!
Mrs. S. (school counselor) came for our first Guidance lesson, "What is Peace?"

Our first Forest Thursday, a fun time for all!
