The First Full Week of School

We had a busy first week of school! I will do my best to recap some of the highlights!

We have been continuing to practice the school rules Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Responsible. As friendships grow, we are beginning to practice using our words to solve problems, or asking for help from a teacher. Mrs. S (school counselor) has begun visiting our classroom on Friday afternoons. Students have been reading books about peace and are creating their own peace flag.
As we continue to learn routines like going to stations, freezing to listen to directions when the chime rings, being responsible for ourselves and our belongings, we are beginning some of the routines around the academic parts of our day as well.
Many of our butterflies came out of their chrysalis' this week! It was so fun to see and Ms. Naomi even caught one on a time lapse video. We've been reading about birds and animals and how they adapt for the winter or fly south.

We have begun learning about independent and partner reading, and have been doing lots of rhyming and work with the names of students in our classroom. We are working on two class books "Willoughby Wallaby Woo" and "Wheels on the Bus" that change the first letter of students names to begin the awareness of letter sounds.

In math we are exploring manipulatives that we will be using this year (unifix cubes, polydrons, pattern blocks, geoboards) and beginning sorting by attributes and playing counting games wtih numbers 1-9.

We had an awesome Wilderness Wednesday, choosing a class tree to follow through the year and trying out our class puddle pants! We are looking forward to a little bit cooler weather!

We also explored the iPads a bit this week, learning how to care for them and using a drawing app called Doodle Buddy. We will continue exploring new apps and learning how to post independently on Seesaw!
