The kids have already begun getting familiar with routines like what to do when they get here in the morning, how we line up and go to lunch, hand washing, what to do at the end of snack, the list goes on. We've also been having lots of fun as children learn to make choices around the room, practicing both making a choice for themselves and times that we have stations we rotate through.
Here are some pictures of our first days together!
Day 1
Day 2
Today we did some math stations and learned about the September calendar, which focuses on shapes. Students practiced math habits of mind like "private reasoning time" and "turn and talk" about the calendar. They also explored with unifix and pattern blocks, math tools that we use frequently in kindergarten.
After lunch we read the book "How Full is Your Bucket?", another book about being kind. Then we had quiet time and ended the afternoon with Library. They picked books to borrow for the week and exchange each Tuesday.
