These last two weeks we have been reading many different versions of The Gingerbread Man and enjoying practicing ours songs for our play. The kids gave their top three choices for characters, and many even practiced singing a solo song in the microphone to see if they would like that! It was very sweet to see a few of them try it and decide they didn't actually like it.
We have also had Bonnie Birdsall, our Digital Learning Leader, come in and do some teaching around being safe, kind, and responsible with technology. See the Friday folder for some activities the students did around these ideas.
Last week we worked in our Fundations student notebooks and reviewed letters sounds and writing the lower case letters. Ms. Taylor and I were both amazed with the huge difference from the beginning of the year in their independence and letter knowledge! They have been working hard at starting to learn some "sight" words that we are practicing reading in a "snap" (without sounding out). They also started bringing home the Brand New Readers books and seem really excited about practicing their reading!
In math we are learning some new games, practicing recognizing and writing numerals, flashing numbers on our fingers, discussing attributes and names of 2D and 3D shapes, and using pattern blocks to fill a shape three different ways.
Ms. S came today and taught more about following the "group plan". Today the kids learned about "Thinking with your eyes" and that we can usually tell what someone is thinking about by looking at their eyes!
Yesterday we did Jazzercise in the gym to start our day, thanks to filling the big school beehive with buzzies again! Today we celebrate Ms. Taylor's official last day (although she will be back next week to sub while I do some literacy assessments!).
