Week of Jan 1-6

What a fun week! It was great to hear all the stories of children's vacations and see them reconnect with friends. In math we worked on numeral writing, writing equations, and working independently at math stations. At reader's workshop we practiced both independent reading and partner reading, with a special focus on what it looks and sounds like at both of those times. This week we spent a little extra time reading "just right" books, as we will be starting some guided reading groups next week! In writing we are continuing the unit we started before vacation, writing pattern books just like our "just right" books! This week we learned that pattern books can sometimes have a "seesaw" pattern, or can ask a question and then answer it. Ask your children to share some examples with you!
We are continuing to build community and will spend some time talking about families, thinking about how our families are similar and how they are different, and creating family portraits. We will continue practicing Kelso's choices and solving small problems independently, and will begin learning about "The Zones" with Ms. S. (more to come about that!).
