Picture Day, Four Winds and an Apple Trip!

Hello Everyone,

I can't believe that we are one month into Kindergarten! It really has flown by.

The children did a great job with getting their picture taken...some friends were nervous about this so we practiced with the chairs in the classroom before we went down and were very careful with our morning snacks! We did have a few yogurt faces to take care of :) I can't wait to see the photos when they come in!

On Wednesday, we had our first Four Winds lesson on Leaf Feeders. The children watched a wonderful puppet show with some animal and plant friends, and then we headed to the great outdoors to do some work with our Leaf Feeder field guides. Children used the guides to decipher which type of feeding was occurring on the leaf and did a wonderful job sorting and organizing by this attribute when we all came back together at base camp.

On Friday, we set off to Chapin's Apple Orchard in Essex, VT. The children were toured by Opa Steve, our apple teacher.  They learned a lot about how bees work together to help the apple blossoms grow into apples, ways that Farmer Jim cares for the apples and also learned how to make apple cider using a manual apple press. The children had fun reading stories about apples, discovering the star and seeds in our apple dissection, singing apple songs and painting apples with watercolor before our trip.

There are so many wonderful photos from the day.  I sent out a class e-mail with an attachment of photos from the trip. Hopefully each family can find one that they might want to snag!
