We really had a wonderful week back from break. Many children are very excited to be starting their baseball teams and hopefully that was the last snow for the season!
This week we continued writing How-To books and used a checklist to look at our writing and set a goal for ourselves in how to make our books even better. The independence during writer's workshop this year is like nothing I have ever experienced in kindergarten! Many teachers have walked in while they are quietly writing away and are very impressed!
In math we are finishing up shapes and doing some work around teen numbers. While many children are very familiar with the teen numbers, it is great to look at groupings and be thinking of teen numbers as ten and how many more. We played a fun game called Mystery Numbers where kids practice writing numbers 10-20 and then guess the number in my pocket, to find out if my number is greater than or less than the number they guessed. A great game to play at home!
We have been keeping a close eye on the seeds we planted in our garden before break and many things are starting to sprout! We also planted some carrot and bean seeds indoors in the window in a root viewing container so we can watch what happens under the soil! Our incubator is all set up to 100degrees for our eggs to come on Monday afternoon! The kids are really excited.
Yesterday we began listening to the songs that go with our play The Wide Mouthed Frog, so you may start to hear some of them at home! The kids already have very strong opinions about which animals they would like to be!
Next week Ms. Greenfield will be here Wednesday as I begin some end of year assessing, we are going to a play at WCS on Thursday morning, and Friday afternoon we will participate in a school wide Arbor Day celebration planting a maple tree!
