Students had a great day yesterday with Mrs. Macnee!
Today we continued working during writer's workshop on teaching books. It is really interesting (quite fascinating really) to watch children engage with the mini lesson and then work in their own books. Often this time of year, there is a bit of a disconnect with the two! Many children are understanding the difference between teaching books and stories, as well as how we hear sounds in words and certain letters make those sounds. For many, putting this all together to make a teaching book over several pages with complete thoughts, pictures, and some words, is no easy task! Today and yesterday, kids worked on "reading" their book to a partner, trying to make it really sound like a book, and ask and answer questions with their partner about each others books.
We spent about an hour outside this morning in the beautiful sunshine. We stayed closer to the classroom because our Champlain intern was out sick today and I didn't want to go out farther without another adult. The kids used the field guides, magnifying glasses, and binoculars to explore the plants, grass, trees, and more near our circle of log seats. There was also quite a bit of balancing on the logs and tree climbing.
Ms. Heather was back today to teach about "Body in the Group". Ask your child about the underwater adventure in the book!
