A few more things!
What a great week!
We went to the tech lab this morning and students practiced logging on to the computers. They have to type their first and last names as well as a password so you can imagine how interesting that was! It was quite funny to see them navigate a "mouse" and figure that out! Needless to say, we'll be practicing on our classroom computers a bit before we go back! :)
We took some time to talk about how to solve a problem (especially at choice time). As children are getting more comfortable with each other many are needing support and practice around what to do when someone does something you don't like (wreck your building, take the lego you're playing with, sit in your spot when you get up to get a drink). We role played a bit of "Say stop, use your words, then ask a teacher for help".
This afternoon we had a chilly Forest Friday! We did our usual sit spots and yoga song, and then filled our birdfeeders to hang outside our classroom. We ventured back to the top of the hill on the path we worked so hard to make and we walked around the hill in a large circle to learn where the boundaries were. We tied orange string on the trees as a reminder for how far we can explore. It was amazing how many things we saw that kids were interested in identifying and learning more about. We ended with a story about how Grandfather Frog lost his tail from the Old Mother West Wind book.
It was really neat to watch kids navigate a large tree that was great for climbing. There was a great deal of discussion and communication (between them) around whether it was safe, how many kids could climb at a time, how long a turn should last, etc.
