March

We have had a great week back from vacation! Everyone seemed so happy to be back at school and it's amazing to watch the kids jump right into their routines and work so independently through the day compared to September!
Last week in writer's workshop we worked on being "Star Writers" by paying attention to leaving spaces between our words, using an uppercase for the first letter of our sentence and then lowercase, using the word wall to spell words and recording as many sounds as we can hear. This week we will be using our writing time to launch a new science unit of pushes and pulls and practice some new inquiry skills!
In math we are in the middle of a unit on shapes where we are learning to identify shapes and describe their attributes, and create shapes on geoboards and with pattern blocks. We are also practicing counting to 100 especially getting over those decade numbers!
In Fundations and guided reading we are working hard on tapping out CVC words and changing letters to make new words (mat to sat to sap to sip). We are also working hard on learning to read those kindergarten words by sight without tapping them out (at, and, me, is, the, we, you).

Yesterday we had a great visit from Brooke's mom to learn about saving money at the bank and thinking about saving and spending money! This morning we are learning about animal tracks during Four Winds with Zephyr and Evelyn's moms!
