Update

It's hard to believe that the first six weeks of school is officially over! It's amazing to think of all the things the children have learned in the last several weeks about coming to school- they are already seeming more grown up and mature in a short amount of time! As I am preparing for conferences I am excited to share all of the things they are doing and working on as kindergartners.
Last week in Writer's Workshop students got to know their new writing partner that they will stay with for several weeks. They shared the books they've been working on and learned the beginnings of being a good listener to their partner, asking genuine questions about their work, and then taking a turn to share their own work. We've been talking about ways partners can use each other during the workshop if they are "stuck" and not sure what to do.
The last couple Fridays we have been visiting the technology lab where students are learning how to spell their first and last name as well as type it to sign into the computer! After signing in we have explored the Paint program to practice using the mouse (new for many as they are so used to "touch" screens if they have experience with technology) and have explored two great websites, starfall where they can learn about specific letters and the sounds they make and a "symbaloo" created with many different national geographic books. I am working on a link from the blog to sites like these so children can also access them from home.

Last but certainly not least, ask your child to tell/show you about the three yoga breaths they know! We've been doing some yoga, breathing, and read alouds around social skills and feelings when they return from lunch and recess before our quiet time.  We are spending time talking about friendship skills, feelings, big and small problems, etc and the kids and I are both really enjoying the time set aside each day for this.
