Last week we also began our writer's workshop routine. We learned that writer's think of something they know a lot about, and then make a book about it! We have looked at several mentor texts that do this (A Trip to the Apple Orchard, Animals in Fall are two examples!). We are also learning how "When writer's are done, they've just begun!" as kids learn what to do when they feel finished (add to my picture, add to my words, or start a new piece). We will slowly build stamina and skills! This class is eager for me to teach them how to write words on their pages! More to come about how we approach this in kindergarten!!
Mrs. Tatlock has come in a few times now and we are learning a great deal about Kelso's choices (see the green choice wheel that came home in the Friday folder). They are practicing identifying large and small problems (is it scary or dangerous?) and if it's a small problem they can try two of Kelso's choices before asking an adult for help! It has been cute to watch them walk over to the wheel and pick something to try.
We have been doing some baking and cooking and made delicious muffins (thanks for the ingredients!) and today we made applesauce from the apples we brought home from Chapin's. It was really yummy!
