We were able to get back to some of our "full day" Wilderness Wednesday routine, going back outside between music and lunch (10-11). In the afternoon, we are still doing stations where students rotate through four stations, typically over two weeks. This week we finished up the stations from last week. Here are some pictures of the force and motion challenge we did with some balls and ramps (from a DonorsChoose project a couple of years ago!)
In writing children have continued working on their true stories, and it is amazing to see all the growth that has happened over the last couple months! This week students used a checklist to think about their writing, identifying things they are doing well and a couple of areas where they might focus their attention. They were very honest and reflective and it was sweet to listen to them share with each other what they were still learning about. They also added a vowel chart to their folders, working on hearing sounds in the middle of words.
Ask your child to show you how they use the vowel chart!
In math we have continued lots of number games, especially working on concepts around the teen numbers. Students have also been solving number problems and learning about equations.
Also, we got a new play stand and arch from a grant I wrote through the Vermont NEA. It has been so fun to watch children engage in imaginative play, who might not otherwise be interested!
