We have had a great week in kindergarten! We anxiously awaited the arrival and hatching of our chicks and were so disappointed to not have any hatch. We gave it a few extra days and nothing happened. With a little investigating it seems the eggs may have not been fertilized or had something happen during transit as there was nothing growing in them. I was blown away by the student responses and impressed by their flexibility, brainstorming, and fresh ideas. We are in the midst of figuring out if we have time to try again, buy some young chicks to observe, or just call it a learning experience. I will keep you posted!
We started writing fictional chick stories and did the building/creating of our chickens to try paper mache! We are getting these things ready to share with you all at our celebration of kindergarten in a couple of weeks.
We also had a chance to go to a first and second grade "reading restaurant" in Ms. Benoit's class this week. They ordered stories and the first and second graders waited on them and read to them. It was really very sweet and a nice chance for the kids to be in the first and second grade wing and see how much fun it is to go to first grade!
Today we went to the Public Works Department to see the building and vehicles and learn about some of the work they do in our town. Everyone was very polite and respectful and had a great time.
